Purpose

The KB-399R automatic edge banding machine is designed for banding straight and profiled edges of furniture components and workpieces with synthetic roll-fed edge-banding materials. The machine enables the production of components with both straight and profiled edges and can process four different softforming profiles.

  • The machine is equipped with two liquid application units:
  1. The first unit applies release agent through two nozzles located before the workpiece pre-milling unit. A special release agent prevents protruding adhesive residues from adhering to the workpiece.
  2. The second unit applies polishing fluid through two nozzles located before the buffing unit. The cleaning fluid removes the release agent applied at the beginning of the process and any loose adhesive residues. It also adds gloss to the finished edge of the workpiece.

Engineering advantages

PC for machine control
The machine is controlled using an industrial PC with a touch-screen interface. The icons for switching units and assemblies on and off are intuitive and require no special skills to operate the machine.
Programming processing pauses
Glue pot heating pauses can be programmed.
Automatic workpiece spacing device
The workpiece feed spacing device maintains the minimum distance between workpieces, preventing damage to the machine units during operation.
Profile milling unit for the workpiece edge
The workpiece edge profile milling unit is equipped with two milling motors. The cutter height and position are adjusted by servo motors.
Profile changeover
The machining profile is changed from the control panel at the touch of a button by servo-adjusting the height of the profile cutter relative to the workpiece.
Pre-milling unit for the straight edge of the workpiece
The pre-milling unit for the straight edge of the workpiece is equipped with two high-frequency motors, ensuring high-quality machining of the material edge before the edge band is applied. Pre-milling removes the step left by the scoring saw and eliminates chipping. The pre-milling unit is equipped with 40 mm high diamond cutters (65 mm optional).
Workpiece edge heating lamp
The lamp heats the workpiece edge before edge banding, improving the quality of the bond between the edge band and the workpiece.
Edge band grooving unit
The edge band grooving unit creates a groove on the inner side of the edge band, allowing it to bend during application.
Pressure roller unit for profiled edge
The servo-controlled pressure roller unit for profiled edge switches precisely between machining profiles at the touch of a button. Several heating lamps and a hot-air blower are used to heat and soften the edge band.
Pressure roller unit for straight edge
The pressure roller unit for straight edge consists of five pneumatically actuated rollers, ensuring even pressure distribution across the edge band during application.
Glue pot
The upper quick-change glue pot for EVA/PUR adhesive has a non-stick coating and is installed on the pressure roller unit for profiled edge.
Lower glue pot
The lower glue pot has a non-stick coating and is installed on the pressure roller unit for straight edge.
End trimming unit
The end trimming unit is equipped with two high-frequency motors, while the saw assemblies travel on dedicated linear guides. The unit features an automatic guide lubrication system.
Trimming unit for profiled edge
The trimming unit for profiled edge consists of two high-frequency motors fitted with radius cutters for machining edge band 0.5–0.8 mm thick. The workpiece is traced by two large round copy shoes, one on each motor, mounted on a floating assembly. This design prevents defects during trimming.
Trimming unit for straight edge
The trimming unit for straight edge consists of two high-frequency motors fitted with radius cutters for machining edge band 0.4–3.0 mm thick. The workpiece is traced by two large round copy shoes, one on each motor, mounted on a floating assembly. This design prevents defects during trimming.
Corner rounding unit
The corner rounding unit is equipped with two high-speed motors and operates reliably at a feed speed of 18 m/min. Four operating modes are available.
Radius scraper unit for profiled edge
The radius scraper unit for profiled edge is equipped with carbide radius knives that remove a thin layer from the trimmed part of the edge band and eliminate cutter marks after trimming. This produces a smooth, finished surface.

The radius scraper unit for straight edge is equipped with two carbide radius knives that remove a thin layer from the trimmed part of the edge band and eliminate cutter marks after trimming. This produces a smooth, finished surface.
Glue joint scraper
The machine is equipped with two flat scraper units: the first for profiled edge and the second for straight edge. Each unit is fitted with straight carbide knives (glue joint scrapers) that machine the edge band where it meets the workpiece. This operation removes excess adhesive and microscopic irregularities from the joints where the edge band is bonded to the workpiece.
Buffing unit
The double buffing unit buffs the machined section of the edge band. High-quality results are achieved by a pneumatic-cylinder-driven oscillation system. A polishing fluid application unit provides the edge band with a final gloss.
Heavy-duty machine frame
The edge banding machine frame is built as a rigid box structure with the necessary reinforcing ribs, ensuring precise positioning of all units throughout the machine's service life.
Pressure belt
The pressure belt, used instead of rollers, ensures precise and reliable workpiece positioning at every stage of edge band processing.
Encoder
The encoder on the pressure beam lifting/lowering mechanism automatically positions the beam according to the workpiece thickness set on the control panel.
Centralized lubrication
The centralized lubrication unit automatically lubricates the guides of the end trimming unit.
Electrical components
The electrical components comply with CE requirements.
Sound insulation
The machine cabin doors are lined with a layer of polyurethane foam sound insulation, providing comfortable operating conditions.
